Rise of the Drones

Helpful or Hurtful?

Rise of the Drones is a complimentary piece to a hypothetical article under the same name, which discusses whether the increasing number of drones in day to day life is a good or bad thing. Most of the benefits to drones are in terms of delivery and rescue efforts. However, there is also a large concern for possible invasion of privacy as well as potential injury to both people and property should the drone fly into something -or someone- it's not meant to. Of course there is also the more generalized fear of robots taking over the world, something that's a concern with almost all technology.

Rise of the Drones is an ambiguous take on the subject as it can be viewed in either a positive or negative light. It can be seen as a drone successfully rescuing a lost, injured hiker; or it can be seen as the drone attacking the hiker, preparing to drop him off the cliff face.

Development

Majority of my other ideas for the piece painted the drone in a solely negative light, actively attacking or spying on people. I have been considering adding some of these more negative connotations into the final piece as I feel it is swaying slightly too close to the positive side of things; that is I feel it is not as ambiguous as I'd initially wanted it to be. However, I fear a  change like placing the character in a net will be too drastic of a swing in the other direction.
